As part of the beautification project in Brandenburg this spring there will be new banners going up in the Riverfront Park and in town. Fay Mattingly visited with us this winter and requested that Purple Heart flags be hung at the riverfront along with the other seasonal flags.
The Purple Heart Banner is a beautification project she would like to see in our community to honor her husband and the many other Purple Heart recipients. The Chamber of Commerce will order the flags and the City’s Maintenance Department, has agreed to hang the banners. We are planning for the banners to be hung by Memorial Day.
Why are we a Purple Heart City/County?
Brandenburg’s Mayor and County Judge had both signed resolutions stating: “we appreciate the sacrifices that our Purple Heart recipients made in defending our freedom, and believe it is important that we acknowledge them for their courage and show them the honor and support that they have earned”. The resolutions are then cataloged within a society that recognizes the many cities and county and state with our country that commit to this special honor.
