While visiting with Robin Terry, owner of Robin’s Nest Adult Day Care during their Open House, I was able to see firsthand what the adult daycare is offering to our community. Robin’s Nest is a Social Model Day Care, and as Robin explained, since opening she receives lots of questions about who is eligible and what they do. “The social model of adult day care emphasizes supervised group activities such as crafts, gardening, music, and exercise. Participants in this model may require some assistance with the activities of daily living (e.g., eating, bathing, and dressing) but they generally DO NOT require skilled nursing care found in a medical model. For example, we cannot administer medication; the client must be able to take it themselves.”
“We are private pay, however, those who have long term care insurance or Veterans can receive benefits to attend an Adult Day Care. Our rates start at $7.00 per hour depending on the length of hours stayed per day. There is a $35.00 application fee which reserves your chosen days during the week. We also have drop-in rates of $11.00 per hour, however this is offered as space permits. Drop-ins are for those who do not consistently come.”
One of our members was able to find the service filled her need to spend time and work at her local office. Living outside of the county and caring for her mother at home was not allowing her to come to the Meade County office as often as she wanted. The adult day care was the perfect answer. “Her mom can come to the day care while she works and then they both return home after work.” According to Robin, day care clients benefit from getting out of the house and interacting with other adults; they make friends and enjoy visiting.
Many caregivers still work and this type of day care is helping to maintain the health and wellness of the client and the routines of the caregiver. When your loved one is not ready for assisted living or a nursing home, but needs an extra hand, the day care can be of service to you. Please call or drop by, and Kelly and Robin will be happy to answer any questions!!
