Kids Matter

January 28, 2014

Good Morning Brandenburg’s Breakfast introduced chamber staff and members to a group of local and area experts on early childhood development. Meade County Community Early Childhood Council Chairperson Nancy Mitcham, of Meade County Schools, Sandy Maldonado of Child Care Aware, and others, shared the obstacles and the joys found in preparing children to be successful in school.

The council provides training sessions that support childcare providers, parents and educators, organize community literacy events, and distributes educational resources to preschoolers and their families. Margaret Benham and the Meade County Public Library are part of the council and are involved with many preschool reading activities for children. You are invited to lend your voice and get involved with making a difference in the lives of Meade County’s children and families. Volunteers may call Nancy Mitcham at 270-422-7500, for more information.

Sandy Maldonado, Training Coordinator at Child Care Aware, shared information for getting help in finding quality child care. Child Care Aware staff can meet and assist parents in choosing a quality child care program by contacting (800) 809-7076 Ext. 6107. Parents can also call 1-877-316-3552 to receive child care referrals.  All referrals will be made by the University of Kentucky Partnership for Early Childhood Services, Child Care Aware of Kentucky. They can also go online to do a search at https://prd.chfs.ky.gov/KICCSPublic/ProviderSearchPublic.aspx
