Great Pumpkin & Watermelon Weighoff
September 18 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
BRANDENBURG, Ky. – The sixth annual Great Pumpkin Pursuit and Giant Watermelon Weigh-off, will be held on Sept. 18 once again at Roberts Family Farm in Guston. This will be another record year for the giant fruits and pumpkins. In 2020, despite a pandemic, they came from 11 different states. Kentucky Giant Pumpkin Growers Association’s along with Meade County’s Cooperative Extension Services and Meade County Tourism co-sponsored the event.
Meade County’s own giant pumpkin and watermelon grower Frank Mudd, Flaherty resident, broke the Kentucky State Record in 2019 and now holds second place for the Largest Watermelon Ever Grown. He grew a whopper that tipped the scales at 341 pounds.
“This is one of my favorite things to do”, Mudd said. “I am an outside person, and I am looking forward to spending time with other growers who spend their time watching watermelon and pumpkins grow so rapidly.”
Rhonda Roberts said her family is honored to host the event. The farm also provided fall activities such as hayrides, a corn maze, and a pumpkin patch for 19 years.
“Quality time for families and bringing people together is what we’re all about, and this event is going to extend that,” Rhonda Roberts said.
The first prize for pumpkins is $1,000 and the first prize for watermelons is $1,000. The growers of the top 10 pumpkins and top ten watermelons will earn prize money.
Come see history be made in Meade County once again!
