This position assists in the day-to-day maintenance and repair work for our water and wastewater infrastructure, requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
Specific responsibilities of this position include:
- Operating a backhoe with skill and precision;
- Operating water and wastewater valves, fire hydrants and flush hydrants;
- Finding and excavating infrastructure for repair/replacement;
- Heavy lifting, ability to operate various tools and machinery;
- Collecting and analyzing water samples to monitor chlorine;
- Installing, maintaining and replacing water meters, water and sewer taps, boxes, lids, service lines, etc.;
- Site restoration and pavement repair work; and
- Other responsibilities as needed.

Louisville, KY – Fire Suppression Technician
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to repair and install fixed fire suppression equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Install and perform installations and repairs on various fire suppression equipment including kitchen hood, vehicle and paint booth fire extinguishing systems. Install suppression systems for compliance with NFPA and local authority having jurisdiction. Perform on-site emergency troubleshooting of fire suppression equipment. Monitor inventory and initiate requests for supplies, materials, and equipment. Requires use and working knowledge of specialized tools, equipment, and/or materials. Develop and maintain service schedules. Conform to safety standards as prescribed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Training in Fire Suppression Equipment and fire safety procedures preferred Two years (2) of experience in the service and repair of fire extinguishing equipment (preferred but not required) High school diploma or equivalent. Clean driver’s License. Willing to train the right applicant.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Requires the ability to display knowledge of principles and practices of fire safety and suppression. Requires the ability to display knowledge of codes and regulations related to the work. Perform installations and repairs of fire extinguishing equipment. Requires the ability to recognize and report deviations through inspection programs. It requires the ability to interpret, apply, and explain applicable laws, codes, and regulations. Requires the ability to maintain accurate records and reports. It requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Requires the ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, medium equipment, and machinery.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move upwards of 50 pounds. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
